My new favorite shoes
I spent last week in Snowbird and Alta. No, I'm not a great skier, but I do try. I'm not the big "powder" skier, and until you've been on it, you've no idea. Instead of my usual falling over at the ski lift (don't ask), I did a new trick-fall forward while moving. I started off my lessons surprisingly well, but was soon "checked myself before I (literally) wrecked myself" on Big Emma-a green run, and I use the term "green" loosely. Or should I say inaccurately?
I hit the powder and it went like this: Ski, stall, fall. Struggle, grunt, grimace, cuss. Take off the #%*(%&$ing ski because I couldn't get up. Repeat. Several times over. Surprisingly enough, it wasn't all "my" fault. I had gotten a pair of Nordica boots last Christmas, mainly for the fur/ugg like lining. On my final fall, my foot actually came out of my boot! It was lodged about 60% out of the boot in the ankle part, ski still attached. This wigged me OUT, as I totally gained a perspective on how people get hurt skiing.
So off to the ski shop I went with my instructor. Turns out that the boots, which I though fit, were 1.5 sizes too large. WTF? Apparently this is a common occurrence. Without boring you with too many details, the most entertaining being my "pimp walk" around the ski store as my new boots were fitted, here's the general take home message:
Don't eff with your ski boots girls. Sacrifice you next pair of Jimmy Choos, Manolos, Louboutins. For my SoCal sisters, that translates into the twenty pair of flip flops you'll buy this season.
